Research Article

The Turkish Writers Union (TYB) has published the TYB Academy Journal of Language, Literature and Social Sciences on three occasions per annum (in January, May and September) since 2011. This peer-reviewed journal publishes qualified academic studies in the fields of Turkish language, literature and social sciences. The journal continues to make a substantial contribution to the accumulation of knowledge in these fields by bringing together original studies on different disciplines of literature and social sciences in each issue it publishes.
The objective of TYB Academy is to facilitate the dissemination of research articles, reviews and critical writings in various fields of social sciences, including literature, linguistics, history, sociology, philosophy and cultural studies, to academic circles and interested readers. Since its inception in 2011, the journal has published a diverse range of topics, including literary work reviews, linguistic analyses, sociological examinations of historical events and philosophical discourse, fostering an interdisciplinary exchange of ideas.

The journal's content is notable for its comparative analyses of world literature and language studies, as well as its research on Turkish language and literature. Furthermore, the journal includes studies that adopt a critical perspective on social problems, reviews evaluating current issues, and theoretical discussions on topics such as cultural identity, which collectively enhance the content of the publication. TYB Academy persists in its commitment to advancing discourse within the realms of literature and the social sciences. In each published issue, the TYB Academy upholds the tenets of scientific originality and academic ethical principles. As a platform that fosters interdisciplinary approaches and draws upon both academic and cultural knowledge, the journal strives to make a substantial impact on Turkey's scientific and intellectual advancement.

Publication Principles

Academic impartiality and scientific quality are the most important criteria in the evaluation of articles submitted to TYB Academy. Authors are considered to have accepted that the article submitted to the journal is original and has not been published before, even in another language, nor has it been sent to another journal for publication. TYB Academy is a peer-reviewed journal. The editorial board will provide feedback and suggest referees based on the preliminary acceptance of the submitted writings. Each article is sent to at least two referees. If one referee report is positive and the other negative, the article may be sent to a third referee, or the editor may review the referee reports and make a final decision. Referee suggestions, criticisms, and corrections are sent to the author with the referee's name concealed; authors are obliged to comply with the referees' opinions. If authors insist on their opinions with justification, the editorial board will make a new assessment. Works deemed publishable by the editorial board based on the referees' opinions will be reviewed for formatting, writing rules, references, and the association of visual materials with the text. If no significant issues are found, the final review will be conducted by the editor. The copyright of articles accepted for publication in the journal is transferred to TYB Academy, while specific distribution rights remain with the authors. The responsibility for the opinions expressed in the published articles belongs to the authors. Quotes from texts and photographs can be made by providing references.

In studies supported by a research institution/organization (BAP, TUBITAK, Ministry of Development, etc.), the name of the institution/organization and the project, if any, date and number should be indicated with footnotes.

The name, place and date of the meeting should be stated in the congress and symposium papers.

In book introductions and translations, the "title, keywords and abstract" must be in English. In book promotions, at the beginning of the article, the cover image and tag of the book to be promoted (print date, edition, place of publication) should be included. In translations, the name of the translated book/publication should be indicated with footnotes.

Articles that are not prepared according to the rules of our journal in citation and bibliography will not be accepted unless corrected.

Similarity report to be obtained from http://www.ithenticate.com/ with the articles (no filtering should be done) should also be uploaded as an additional file (Master's Doctorate students can receive a similarity report through their advisors or with the account of any faculty member. If the affiliated university has an iThenticate subscription A similarity report can be obtained free of charge from the site in question).

Writing Rules

Submissions should be prepared according to the American Psychological Association (APA) 7th edition reference system, footnote style, and reference formatting. Articles submitted to TYB Academy must adhere to the following guidelines. If any issues that do not comply with the following rules are detected during the preliminary control phase, the article will be returned to the author for revision before being sent to referees.

General Appearance

Works must be submitted in Microsoft Word. The Times New Roman font style should be used throughout the document, including tables, graphs, figures, and maps. The line spacing for the text is set at 1.15. Paragraphs should be separated by a blank line, with no indentation. Line spacing for tables can be set to 1. Submitted works should consist of at least 5,000 and a maximum of 10,000 words, excluding the English extended summary. The main text should be written in 10-point font.

Title

The title should be compatible with the content and best express it, centered in bold with only the first letter of each word capitalized, written in 11-point font. Conjunctions (and, for, etc.) should be written entirely in lowercase.

Author(s) and Address

The author's title, name, and the institution they represent should be centered below the title in 10-point font. No titles should be used in the author’s name, and the institution's name should be italicized. Additional information should be footnoted next to the author’s name with an asterisk (*). The footnote should include the title, university/institution, faculty/institute/school, department/field of study, email address, and ORCID ID number in order.

Abstract

At the beginning of the article, there should be a summary that briefly and concisely expresses the topic, written in both Turkish and English, not exceeding 150 words, in 9-point font. The summary should not mention the sources, figures, or table numbers used. Below the abstract, leaving one blank line, keywords consisting of at least 3 and a maximum of 8 words should be provided in both Turkish and English.

Extended Summary

To enhance the international visibility of the works, an English extended summary of at least 750 and a maximum of 1,000 words must be provided.

Tables, Graphs, and Figures

The titles of tables, graphs, figures, etc., should be written in 9-point font above the respective items. Titles should be numbered and written in bold, left-aligned, followed by a period. The name of the table, graph, or figure should follow immediately, with only the first letter of the first word capitalized (Example: Table 1. Citation table). Figures and graphs used in the work should be prepared in black and white, suitable for high-resolution printing. The source should be written below the table, graph, or figure, centered in italics and in 8-point font. The font size used in tables should not exceed 9-point.

Quotations and References

Authors should avoid using footnotes as much as possible. Footnotes should only be explanatory and numbered in order. TYB Academy does not use endnotes. However, in exceptional and mandatory cases, endnotes may be used only for explanations and should be placed at the end of the text. Direct quotations should be enclosed in quotation marks; quotations of less than five lines should be placed inline, while longer quotations should be formatted as a block, indented 1.5 cm from the left and right margins, written in a font size of 9-point with 1.0 line spacing. If there is a general reference in the text that refers to the entire work, writing (author's last name, year) is sufficient. Example: (Kala, 2019). If a specific page is cited or relevant ideas are taken from a specific section, the source should be noted with the page number. Example: (Arıcan, 2013, p. 54) or if a range is to be provided (Kala, 2019, pp. 12-14).

Citation

In-text references (citations) and bibliography are based on the 7th edition of the APA system.

The TYB Academy Journal of Language, Literature and Social Sciences is committed to upholding the principles of scientific honesty, impartiality and transparency throughout the publication process. The objective of the journal is to facilitate the convergence of social sciences and literature research within the academic community in Turkey, while ensuring the dissemination of knowledge in a manner that is respectful and in accordance with the highest standards of academic integrity. In accordance with this, the journal requires its stakeholders to act in accordance with the ethical principles set out in this document in all its processes.

Ethical Responsibilities of Authors


It is expected that authors submitting studies to TYB Academy will comply with the following ethical responsibilities:

Originality and Citation: Authors must submit only original studies. If other studies are used, these sources must be cited correctly and completely.
The contribution of individuals who do not contribute to a study should not be indicated as authors. Everyone who makes an intellectual contribution to the study must be indicated as an author.
Authors should declare any potential conflicts of interest regarding their studies.
When necessary, authors should be ready to submit raw data to the scientific board.
In the event of multiple submissions, the following procedure should be followed: It is not permissible to submit the same study to more than one journal for evaluation at the same time.

The Ethical Duties and Responsibilities of Editors


Editors are responsible for each article published in the journal and must adhere to the following ethical rules:

Impartiality: It is the responsibility of editors to evaluate studies impartially, without allowing commercial or political concerns to influence their judgement.
Feedback: In providing feedback to authors in response to the referees' evaluations, it is imperative that the language employed is constructive and informative.
Confidentiality: Editors are bound by a duty of confidentiality with regard to the evaluation process and must safeguard the confidentiality of the author-reviewer relationship.

Ethical Responsibilities of Referees

In the context of a double-blind review process, reviewers are expected to adhere to the following ethical responsibilities:
Area of Expertise: It is the responsibility of the referee to ensure that they possess the requisite expertise to evaluate studies within their field.
Impartiality: It is imperative that they conduct an objective evaluation, free from any personal biases, including those related to nationality, gender, religious beliefs and political views.
Confidentiality: It is the responsibility of the referees to maintain the confidentiality of the studies they evaluate. Furthermore, they may only utilise the studies in question after their publication.

Publisher's Ethical Responsibilities

The Turkish Writers Union (TYB) assumes the role of publisher and is thus responsible for ensuring that the journal's publishing process aligns with ethical standards. All decisions are made within the framework of editors' independence, and economic or political interests do not affect these processes.

Ethics Committee and Human Rights

In order for studies to be published, the editors and authors must obtain ethics committee approval for the subjects included in the studies and document that the necessary permissions regarding human rights have been obtained. Studies cannot be published without such documents. TYB Academy will continue to be a respected platform in the academic publishing world, both nationally and internationally, in line with the principles of scientific originality and commitment to ethical values.

TYB ACADEMY does not require any fees from authors during the publication application, refereeing and publication processes. Furthermore, authors whose articles are published are sent one issue free of charge upon request.
